Balkan Yarrow is a low-growing, compact, spreading and mat-forming Achillea, each plant forming a clump of dense, feathery green-silver leaves and golden yellow flowers on 30-40 cm spikes throughout the summer. The leaves of Achillea clypeolata are deeply lobed and have a silvery-green colour that adds to the ornamental value of the plant. It likes full sun and grows in dry, rocky habitats in the Balkans and Turkey. In our climate it does best in an amended garden soil that retains some moisture, it is not really suited to shallow clay soils or exposed to extremely dry summer conditions.

Achillea clypeolata prefers well-drained soil and does not like to be over-watered, always make sure the soil is dry before watering. Although they are frost-tolerant, they may lose their leaves but will re-grow in the spring.
