Atlas Fescue. This giant fescue is native to the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and Algeria.

It is a long-lived evergreen clumping grass that forms fountain-like mounds up to 60cm high and wide with grey-green foliage. Plant in full sun or partial shade in a well-drained soil with occasional to regular watering - this plant is fairly drought tolerant once established but looks better (with fewer brown tips) if watered occasionally in summer. It is hardy and will remain evergreen in warmer climates. It is tolerant of a variety of soil types and does not need to be cut back, but benefits from a spring raking to remove older leaves. Atlas Fescue is an attractive and reliable grass for embankments or for the natural look of a meadow. Do not allow sprinklers near it in summer or water from above as this will rot the dense centre of the foliage.

It is a cool season grass. These grasses do most of their growing in early spring and continue as temperatures begin to cool in autumn. During the warmer summer months these grasses stop growing and even go dormant.
