---------------------- : ----------------------

Low clumping tough dark foliage, mottled with white rough texture. Best planted in large groups to enjoy the coral flowers on 60cm tall stems in spring. They have the colour and form of a flock of Flamingos. It offsets freely from the base and soon forms a dense cluster with dull green speckled leaves. The leaves are 3 to 15cm tall and may spead to 30cm wide or more.

Native to the Western Cape of South Africa, it grows in hilly terrain, river valley's and on vertical rock ledges, on shale and sandstone outcrops and occasionally Limestone in dry open fynbos vegetation. It forms large clusters. In more exposed areas, it tends to have dark brownish-green colour, but more often they grow hidden amongst bushes and other vegetation, in that case they remain green. Plants prefer partial shade, and in hot climates should be protected from full sun. They are an ideal container plant on a shady terrace. They require very little water, even as a pot plant, so they are well suited to holiday homes where they can reliably be left for many months over summer with no attention. Furthermore, they are also very cold hardy down to -5 Celsius.
