This is an old clump-forming daylily, producing a large 12-15 cm single orchid-pink bell-shaped flower. The striking soft pink and white petals have a yellow centre and are fragrant, attractive to butterflies but also edible and used in salads. The plants foliage can reach up to 75 cm above the ground after 2-3 years.

Daylilies will flower repeatedly throughout the spring and into our early summer. They like moist, deep, well-drained soil and respond well to a layer of compost and mulch in winter. As herbaceous perennials, the foliage dies back in winter and reappears at the end of February, although the foliage will also die back in midsummer if the plant is deprived of water. They are easy to grow, drought tolerant and only need a sunny spot in the garden. They are a gardener's plant that will add a splash of colour and lush green foliage to a border or close to a patio, they are not suitable for xeriscaping or dry, unimproved soils, just give them some care and attention and they will continue to flower year after year.

Plant 30-40 cm apart, depending on the quality of the soil. Although they like full sun, this can be a little harsh in an Algarve summer, so some shade from other plants or a building is preferable. Once established, they require little maintenance other than feeding with compost and organic fertiliser and mulching each winter.
