An excellent plant for attracting wildlife to your garden as the bright flowers produce abundant nectar which attracts birds, bees and butterflies. The Wild Dagga is a fast-growing, drought and frost-tolerant plant. To reach its full potential it should be watered well once a month in summer, but it will survive with minimal watering. This species is easy to grow but does best in rich, well-drained, loamy soils with plenty of compost. An application of organic fertiliser can be made at the start of the new season, as well as a thick (100-150mm) layer of organic mulch to encourage vigorous growth. Wild Dagga can tolerate moderate to severe frost. Plants should be cut back at the end of winter to a height of about 10-20 cm.
In the landscape, Wild Dagga can be used as a backdrop to smaller shrubs. It can grow very large if given water and fertile soil, so it needs plenty of space. It is probably better to keep pruning it to keep it from becoming too large, then it will be able to survive with much less water.
