Boston Ivy, is a vigorous, but quite controllable, deciduous climber, self clinging to walls or wood with small pads. Large deep green leaves turn brilliant shades of orange and wine-red in winter. Covered with small white flowers and excellent for bees and insects in summer.

Blooms in many places that other plants do not tolerate. It is equally at home growing as ground cover and climbing up a wall. For centuries, it has been used to cover unsightly walls or improve a building facade, reduce wall radiation and insulate vertical walls. It is easy to control with minimal trimming.

Parthenocissus rarely does any damage to walls unless it is pulled out while the plant is alive. If it needs to be removed, the main stems should be cut off first and then left to dry, then they can be scrubbed off without damaging the masonry.

Boston Ivy is in the same family as Virginia creeper, but it is more shade-tolerant.
