Mexican bush sage. This is a very large busy type of Salvia that needs plenty of space. The dramatic flowers are composed of velvety purple calyces with extended white petals, giving a very strong 2 tone display on 150 cm tall stems in summer and autumn. Cut back hard after flowering or when you see new shoots coming from the ground.

Very drought tolerant in open soils and a very reliable addition to any garden in the right place. A deep watering once per month in the height of summer will be beneficial but not essential. Just like all Salvia's that put on early Spring growth, watch out for seasonal droughts, the best flowers will only come if the plant gets enough water in late Spring so a few deep waterings are a good idea if the rains don't come.
