This is probably a subspecies of the native wild Rosemary found in the Algarve. It grows on the cliff tops at the Cape St. Vincent in a very windswept environment, it grows as a low dense bush. Even outside this environment, it still maintains its prostrate habit. It has unusual foliage, in that the leaves are fleshy and more 'succulent' than normal Rosemary, giving it a more robust appearance.
Since 2019 the local Camara have been ripping up some of the old vehicle access tracks at Cape St. Vincent, and we were lucky enough to find some recently uprooted vegetation. All the plants in our nursery come from cuttings grown on from that initial piece. It seems to grow very vigorously and true to the original form.
In a garden situation, it would have to be planted in full sun with very good drainage and no irrigation after the initial establishment period.
