A deservedly popular large growing Russian Sage, this plant has amazing vigour and blooms for many months.
The unusual whitened stems make an interesting vertical feature, lightly clad in finely cut aromatic grey leaves. By mid-summer, they are topped with long spires of lavender-blue flowers. Perfect for a dry sunny garden, as a companion to all kinds of perennials and ornamental grasses.

Perovskia is a great choice for attracting and supporting bees and other pollinating and beneficial insects. This deciduous sub-shrub makes a real impact planted en masse alongside a path, where the sage-like fragrance of its leaves can be appreciated.

In time, it will eventually form a shrubby base, so each Spring you should trim old stems back to this framework to balance the plant's branch structure. It will successfully self seed in a gravel mulch.

Its flowers can be eaten in salads or crushed for dye making, and the plant has been considered for potential use in the detoxification of contaminated soil. The species has a long history of use in traditional medicine in its native range, where it is employed as a treatment for a variety of ailments.
